Red blood cells are the largest particles in whole blood and consequently dominate light scattering measurement. A new application note describes how only Phase Analysis Light Scattering (PALS) on the NanoBrook ZetaPALS instrument offers the sensitivity to measure red blood cells under high salt conditions. Moreover, other zeta potential instruments, that do not use the PALS principle, are shown to literally “fry” the sample or the electrode assembly when attempting to make these measurements.
